Fun Fridays ~ Doll/Stuffed Animal Laptop

My family used to own a computer repair business. I was in charge of the window displays. I put a pair of faux nerd glasses on a koala bear from Build a Bear so he could be our 'koalaity assurance director'. We can use real laptops in our displays, of course, but I made one just for our little bear friend. This is a simple project and I feel like most kids will be able to do it - after all, it is just gluing and coloring (it doesn't have to be coloring if you don't want it to be). It can also help your kids learn where the keys are on the keyboard if they're learning to type. (Do kids even learn how to type anymore? Do they come out the womb knowing to type now? I'm only in my 20s and I don't even know what younger kids are doing now).

You Will Need

  • a piece of cardboard in the size of laptop you want (you can use two different pieces  of cardboard if you want, but I just used one piece and folded it for the laptop's "hinges")
  • printer (optional - if you want to use the pictures I provide)
  • printer paper
  • coloring utensils (if you want to color or if you lack a color printer)
  • a ruler (optional -if  you want straight lines)
  • glue
  • scissors (to cut out icons)
  1. Print out or draw the laptop designs you will be using.
  2. Color your laptop designs.
  3. Print out or draw the laptop icons/taskbar
  4. Color the laptop icons/taskbar
  5. Wait for it to dry.
  6. Glue them onto the cardboard.
  7. Print out or draw the laptop logo/decal for the back of the laptop's screen.
  8. Glue onto the reverse side of the cardboard where the laptop screen is.
  9. Wait for the cardboard to dry before folding the cardboard slightly.
  10. Voila! You are done!
Before I show you what my laptop looked like, here are the promised pictures for you to use. I got them from Google Images all in their original sizes... (you may have to fiddle with your printer settings to make it fit your crafted laptop). Just in case, don't use any of these pictures for commercial use (that means don't use these to make craft laptops you're going to sell).

Keyboards

Cropped version!

Icons

I drew my own on my finished laptop - use them on the actual desktop or on the toolbar!
I got these from http://www.iconarchive.com/

Circles (these come from various sets)

General (also come from various sets)

Laptop Logos

(From the same set as the Simple Icons)

Desktop Wallpapers

Here are some simple patterns and American Girls to decorate your laptop! Found using Google Images. I made these ones medium sized so you can actually get a good look at them.

Now that you have some tools to make your own, here is what my finished project looked like!

Have fun! :) Don't forget to show me your results!
