February Announcement!!
You know what this month is. Yes, yes you do. Don't act like you don't know. February is Black History Month (or National African American History Month).
One thing I've noticed on a lot of AG blogs is that when February comes around, the main focus of their post/the month is Valentine's Day (don't worry, I'll do a post about that holiday too). I haven't found a blog that's talked about African American dolls and doll history.
I can hear you asking... Scarlett, you're WHITE! You can't talk about a black doll's history! You don't even have an African American girl doll! You can't talk about African American History Month because it isn't your history.
But it is my history. The human race is the only one that matters, not the color of your skin or where you come from. We all are related in the grand scheme of things, even if you believe in evolution or the Bible. And yes, I know it may seem like I'm trying to cultural appropriate (which is a ton of BS anyway, but whatever), and I know what white people have done. All I can do is apologize for my ancestor's cruelty and I know I can't just shrug off your struggle with a half-hearted apology. There's nothing I can do about what happened in the past, but I can help change the future. Starting with my doll blog. I know that doing this won't magically solve all the problems in the world and that isn't my intention. I'm not going to sugarcoat stuff just to suit my whiteness. And yes, I know that a single month isn't nearly long enough to tell a history of a group of people, let alone every doll line that makes African American dolls, but I hope to make this an annual thing.
I just want to spend this month going over the history of African Americans and African American dolls as well as spotlight modern doll and doll lines/brands that aim at providing girls with African American dolls.
I know this month starts on Hair Thursday, but I'll begin doing African American History Month.
Media Monday will be devoted to pictures of AA dolls. Tutorial Tuesday and Hair Thursday will host DIY crafts based on African/African-American culture. And of course, Wednesday Wisdom will be about African American dolls and doll lines. American Girl Doll wise, I will be focusing on Addy Walker mostly this year since she is the first ever African American American Girl Doll with crafts related to her story.
