Wisdom Wednesday - National Black Doll Museum of History And Culture

African American History Month is sure breaking records here on Koalaity Dolls. This time we're not going to discuss a doll brand, company or even a single doll but a collection of dolls.

The National Black Doll Museum is located in Mansfield, Massachusetts. It is the first museum of its kind in the Northeast and the second one nationwide [1]. They have 5,000 square feet of display space [1] for a collection of more than 600 of dolls of color [2]. This project was the child of another project named Doll E. Daze [1]. Doll E. Daze started out as a personal collection, but spurred on by a want to display her dolls in public, Debbie Britt set out to find a space for her dolls [2]. After trying to get set up in another city and failing, she found a home for her dolls in Mansfield [1]. They opened their doors in 2012 after repairs were made and led by Debbie Britt herself [1].

The mission of the National Black Doll Museum of History and Culture is to: "nurture self esteem, promote cultural diversity and to preserve the history of black dolls by educating the public on their significance" [1].

There are a lot of cool events hosted yearly like the Martin Luther King Junior Creative Art Celebration & Day of Service and Community Kwannza.

If you (like me) are interested in going one day, the National Black Doll Museum of History and Culture is located at 288 N. Main Street, Mansfield, MA 02048. Their phone number is 774-284-4729. Mondays and Sundays the museum is only open by appointment but they're open Tuesday through Saturday from 12 pm until 5 pm.
