Fun Friday: Photo Shoot & Review With Jade!
After like... two to three weeks.... sorry about that... I *finally* was able to schedule some time to take a couple of pictures with my Bratz doll Jade! This is the newest incarnation (the earliest date I've seen for her production is 2015) and all the Bratz dolls of this era are really on sale (MGA is making another Bratz line this fall).
I am very happy with Jade. She was my favorite Brat as a child (for those of you who still don't know I had a Rubbermaid bin of Barbies and Bratz... I liked the unique nature of the Bratz with their removable feet). I remember the last (okay, it may not have been the last but it's the last one I remember) Bratz I got was Jade as a genie. I never watched any of the movies like I did for Barbie or anything. I think it may have been the name or the fact she was Asian (I am not Asian myself but I do like Asian culture, thanks to Disney's Mulan out of all things) or had an Asian name. Now I find her to be the coolest girl of the Bratz bunch because of her green hair. When I was a kid (early-mid 2000s), she didn't have green hair or a half shaved head (a style that I, recovering Goth/Punk, still like but wouldn't dare do to my hair for... reasons).
Review wise? I may give her a 6 or a 6.5. Her hair obviously has some gel in it, and despite having her and playing around with her hair for weeks, it's still there. It just feels... wrong. I hate it when dolls have that hairspray/gel in their hair, it just annoys me more than anything. It might be just Jade who has it because of her unique hairstyle. The plastic on her legs and arms felt a little odd straight of the box, like sticky. That's the best word I have for it. Everything else (hair length and coverage, other than the weird length on the top due to the green hair being shorter than the rest of her hair, joints and face paint/mold) are all good. The only other complaint is her outfit. It took some major mental manipulation to get myself to see past the 'cool' clashing of cat print (I love cats, so obvious choice) and plaid. The shoes are not really coordinated to match the dress because they're pink and black when the dress has no colors like that (the accessories do, but those are the accessories and not the outfit itself). I would probably say that Jade is perfect for taking pictures, modeling, and collecting. I don't know how well she'll stand during play, but she's certainly above Barbie Fashionistas which are about the same price when the Bratz are on sale. If you're a 90s/00s kid like me and need some nostalgia, pick one up.
